OCEC facilitates management of patients requiring routine, emergency, or intensive care. The hospital has 27  hospital stalls with an intensive care unit that is climate controlled. This allows OCEC's veterinarians and staff to provide in-depth medical and hospitalization services. We have a 24 hour technical staff that is able to provide support and treatment to patients (both adults and neonates) with intensive care needs and supportive care to post-operative cases. 

Common problems seen and treated at OCEC include, but are not limited to:

  • Neurologic disease - abnormal behavior, gait change, or paralysis/ataxia
  • Muscle diseases – PSSM (Polysaccharide storage myopathy), Recurrent exertional rhabdomyolysis) HYPP (Hyperkalemic periodic paralysis), IMM (Immune-Mediated Myositis) 
  • Upper and Lower Respiratory - including coughing, nasal discharge, or respiratory noise. Depending on the severity, oxygen therapy is offered.
  • Metabolic disease – PPID (Pituitary Pars intermedia dysfunction (Cushing's disease)), Insulin resistance, Hypothyroidism.
  • GI disease - Colic, Diarrhea, and choking
  • Neonatal intensive care
  • Weight loss
  • Exercise intolerance
  • Fever
  • Urinary tract disease, including infection, abnormal frequency of urination, or abnormal appearance in urine color
